Dr. Helm graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and received his medical doctorate from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed internship in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital and residency in anesthesiology at UCLA.
Dr. Helm is board certified in anesthesiology, pain medicine and interventional pain management, and is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP), the only certifying agency that tests the ability to perform interventional pain procedures.
He has been practicing interventional pain management in California since 1982 and currently serves as medical director of the Pacific Coast Pain Management Center in Laguna Hills. Dr. Helm is former president of the California Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and a current board member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He publishes extensively on interventional pain management issues, is a recognized educator in pain management surgical procedures, and is active in the effort to ensure that patients have access to procedures that have proven effective in treating chronic pain.
