Dr. Bulger attended the Mayo Medical School College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, and trained in both internal medicine and anesthesiology at Emory University in Atlanta. He completed a pain management fellowship at Penn State College of Medicine, where he developed a special interest in spinal catheter techniques for pain relief. Dr. Bulger is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Bulger implemented some of the first epidural infusion programs for postoperative pain in the United States. Ultimately, his protocols and techniques were adopted by numerous hospitals, including the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. Other honors include an invitation to be an expert panelist and lecturer at the American Society of Anesthesiology national meeting, visiting professor for the UT Southwestern Medical Center residency, former president of the Dallas County Anesthesia Society and being selected as one of D Magazine’s Best Doctors in Dallas for six consecutive years.
Co-author of a chapter on pain treatment options in a major surgical text, Dr. Bulger is a recognized expert in discography and treatments of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. He has lectured locally and nationally on his refinement of this technique.
In private practice in Dallas for more than 20 years, Dr. Bulger is called upon by many prominent spine surgeons in the Dallas metroplex for assistance with the management and treatment of complex spinal pain, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies which include placement of spinal catheters and neurostimulation of the spine or peripheral nerves.
